Through its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) programs, Plaid strives to build a community of perspectives and experiences as diverse as its end users, where authenticity is celebrated and everyone has an equal opportunity to grow and impact the company's mission. Some of Plaids goals for 2021
  • In 2021, Plaid plans to invest a minimum of $250,000 in partnerships with companies like Valence, NextPlay, and others, that will allow Plaid to expand its reach and improve engagement with candidates from diverse background
  • Continue to invest in initiatives (e.g. Plaid’s Apprenticeship program) that seek to bring people from diverse backgrounds into technology
  • Increase transparency for Plaid’s internal mobility options, including more frequent posting of Plaid’s internal jobs board, as well as more detailed explanations of Plaid’s transfer, promotion, and relocation processes
  • Invest in Plaid Community Groups (also known as Employee Resource Groups) to ensure they have foundations that will enable them to scale

Plaid defines URG (underrepresented group) as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latinx, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders, two or more races that include one of the above, and LGBTQ+.

Plaid has been adding more women to its engineering team since 2017, increasing female representation by more than 4x.

My favorite Plaid Principle is "Grow, together". This principle puts into perspective the human quality of constantly striving for better. Individually, as a team, and as a company. 2020 brought immense change.... from Covid altering the way society functions to BLM movements bringing awareness to injustices, and our divisive election. Even though we are faced with unprecedented times; through empathy, frequent communication (feedback), and the right action we have the potential to grow while also ensuring the growth of those around us.
The ambition to foster inclusivity while also transforming the financial ecosystem is a tremendous task. From my first interviews at Plaid in 2019, I realized that those called to such a task were equally ambitious as they were curious, and exceptional in every way. Plaid is special because of the people who make Plaid possible - from the People team, all the way to my fellow Support Engineers, each team is filled with people that prioritize both impact and inclusion equally. I am constantly in conversations that begin with lightness and laughter, and end with tangible and exciting solutions. With a team like this, it’s easy to be grateful and inspired.
